Clients and collaborators include American Express, Mini Cooper, VICE Media, Meshell Ndegeocello, The LOFT LGBTQ+Center, LA LGBTQ+Center, Aubin Pictures, Red Bull Media, Disney Channel, Momentum Agency, Equinox Fitness, Tonal Fitness, Verizon, Genius Media and many others. Her projects in development and production include various scripted narrative and documentary features and TV episodics which firmly center and make visible women subjects and diverse communities. She is in post-production on “Sundays at Café Tabac,” a feature documentary she is directing and producing about ‘90s lesbian nightlife, media visibility, and activism told through the lens of the legendary eponymous party in NYC’s East Village. Her directing craft is shaped by her photography background as well as her immersive experiences in theater and in music and music video production, working with some of our most celebrated artists of all time such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Massive Attack, Patti Smith, Bono, Missy Elliot and many more. Previously she was the Director of the Music Video Dept. at Elektra Records; and was Associate Producer on Polygram Record’s “Ain’t Nuthin’ But A She Thing” and Motown Record’s “Inner City Blues—Tribute To Marvin Gaye” which were both TV Specials and compilation albums. She has worn other professional hats in production as a DP, cameraperson and editor, and also wrote the stage play “Love &amp; Other Natural Disasters” which was produced at the Manhattan Repertory Theater. Karen is also a SAG-eligible actor and was mentored by the late great Tony Award-winning director Jack Hofsiss in stage directing. She has traversed the country on multiple occassions touring with Britney Spears, Ricky Martin and the “How Sweet The Sound” Gospel Competition on their U.S. Tours for clients Polaroid, Pepsi and Verizon respectively.&nbsp; She is a devoted yogi, an avid surfer who leads surf-sail adventures for women, and contributing host of the Swell Season Surf podcast and Café Tabac podcast—both of which record from the Newsstand Studio in Rockefeller Center. In each location, the hosts delved into a different story of interest, which we shot hand-held verité and with camera rigs in and on the Mini. For this episode in Peru, almost the entire crew was wiped out from grave altitude-related illnesses, as we travelled deep in the interior where unpaved roads meandered treacherously through this desert-like mountainous landscape. My decades-long experience on the road off the beaten global path, was an undeniable skill-set as one of only two in our travelling pack, left standing and immune to the bugs and illnesses. We were prepared for this series with 2 vehicles, which we made good use of here leaving one of the cars with busted tires, on the side of the road for pickup later by Mini Cooper.
